Voting… solutions

So I’ve had a pretty busy week, but now I’ve got some time off and I should be able to get around to the new, tournament related project(s). Also, despite some setbacks with the voting, we will make sure that this tournament will be a success. The new pools will be given later this week, definitely before Wednesday.

Also, I need to get around to making a post about the newest section of GrooveStats…

Voting Problems

It seems that not all of the voters have submitted their votes yet… I was worried this would happen since there was so much time between when signups started and the actual voting periods. We’ll figure something out though.

Simfile Tournament

The first round of voting is going to end in about a week. The majority of voters have already cast their votes, and in a week, hopefully everyone will have cast them. Also, an exciting new project is on its way…

ITG: Extended Difficulties

A lot of people seem to be focusing on more stamina/footspeed oriented songs. This point was brought up in a thread over on aaronin.jp. It was requested that we start ranking a stamina pack. The Cosmic Pope is in the process of putting together a bunch of charts (with various authors, not just Dragonforce [but don't worry there should be some DF]), I believe the difficulties range from 13-16, which he has deemed “ITG: Extended Difficulties.” It, like Rebirth, will not affect ITG1/2 ranking.

Future tournaments

The framework for future tournaments has now been laid. Basically, everything will be automated. Here are the basics: Before the tournament I’ll give every user the ability to upload one chart. This chart will be listed in a table on a tournament page (which will be ready in a few days). Songs will be automatically broken into pools. Come voting time, everybody will have the ability to vote for each pool one time. (Meaning that somebody could vote for every song if they wanted to.)

Tournament

I’m still not quite sure what to expect out of this tournament. The plan, of course, is to have a series of tournaments in semi-succession. Then we’ll take the top 3 or so simfiles from each tournament, and put together a pack, which will be separately ranked (similar to Rebirth). We will start ranking the songs as we add them, so at first there will only be 3 (maybe more or less) songs ranked.

I realize that the tournament has been kind of messy, in a sense. This first tournament was more or less to gauge what would happen in terms of how popular it was, how many people would enter, voting methods, and basically all of the rules. We decided to have voters to sign up to prevent repeat voters and careless voting. However, in future tournaments we may end up changing that. A system that I was toying around with was giving every user the ability to vote for every pool once per week. That may actually be what happens in future tournament.

Another thing that people may be curious about are the pools. The pools exist in order to make sure that voting occurs on a comparative level. That way every chart gets a fighting chance in its own pool. Someone can’t give a single chart a 5/5 and bombard the rest with 0’s. This is one of the reasons that I think it might be okay to allow everyone to vote without signing up.

New Themes

Yeah, we’re working on some new themes. We are trying to find something not too flashy, but something more exciting than the current one. If anyone has some ideas post about them. I’m working on a theme with lightning right now, and we’ll post it when we’re done so the community can talk about it.

As far as a time line goes, it’s difficult to say because of confounding variables. However please talk about what you want to see finished sooner.

Also, I’m going to get some serious work done on the pump pro database tonight hopefully >_> if anyone who knows pump pro really well want to help out, drop me a line.

Let’s use this more

We should really be using this more… This would be a much better way to talk about the major updates we’re working on. I know how frustrating it can be when you have to download something without a status bar, and it’s the same deal here. So let me give you a status update on what I’m working on:

-Fixing PIU Pro uploader

-Working on new theme (I will be needing user feedback for this soon)

-Thinking about adding comments to all songs, not just custom songs

-Other stuff but I have to go to class >_>

Filter Problems

As you may have noticed, we did not yet implement the new filters we were discussing earlier. This is because of the caching system used by GrooveStats to keep track of the player ranking. We plan on making a larger update later on which will fix this, and we will add the filters on then. I’ve seen some good suggestions for filters so far, keep them coming!
